GEOGRAPHICAL SITUATION

The Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), formerly known as Zaire and named after the river Congo (or river Zaire), is located in the center of Africa where it appears among the French-speaking giants of the continent, with an area of 2.345.000 Km2. The country shares its borders with nine neighboring countries: the Republic of Congo on the West, Uganda, Burundi, Rwanda and Tanzania in the East; the Central African Republic and Sudan in the North and Zambia and Angola in the South. The climate there is equatorial and tropical. The Democratic Republic of Congo with its 65 million inhabitants is located in the heart of the business development, considering the populations of the neighboring countries which are added to its 65 million inhabitants, it constitutes a large market about 250 million consumers.

    FINANCIAL AND POLITICAL STATUS

The 2006 constitution brought free and democratic elections in all political levels and allowed DRC to have elected representatives of the people as leaders. Endowed with resources of vast potential wealth, the country has begun implementing reforms, putting in place liberalization of economy, a new code of investments, a mining code, labour laws, etc.

    INVESTMENT OPPORTUNITIES IN DRC

DRC has a lot of potential to offer for investors in many sectors, such as:

The Tourist Sector: Although DRC is a destination appraised by many businessmen, tourism remains practically uncharted in the country. With the splendid tropical landscapes, the opportunities of investment in tourism are countless. It is possible to speak about the development of hotel business in several urban centres, management of the modern tourist sites, the modernisation of the national wildlife parks, etc.

The Sector of Real Estate and Building Industry: Due to a significant number of ongoing projects and strong acquisitions, the current market is far from being satisfied. There is a deficiency of modern quality buildings, in line with Congo’s master plan of urban development. Facing this growing demand, the market has seen a real willingness of the economic operators to make this sector more dynamic.

The Mining Sector: The mining sector in DRC is one of the richest in the world with sources of: Diamond, Gold, Copper, Cobalt, Tin, Colombo Tantalite (Coltan), Bauxite, Iron, Manganese, Coal, Oil, Gas and Bitumen Schist.

The Agriculture Sector: By its biodiversity, DRC allows to produce and transform many resources: Wood, rubber tree, curative plants, coffee, cocoa and many more.

The Industrial and Oil Sector: At industrial level, possibilities are also numerous: Textile, leather, coal, cement, steel, production and first transformation of non-ferrous metals and manufacturing works in metals.

The Democratic Republic of Congo is a bearing country for the future, offering numerous opportunities not only in the aforementioned domains, but also in others as, banking sector, services, transport and harbors, telecommunications, etc.
